A clear statement for joie de vivre, closeness to nature and biodiversity:
Gigantic ground picture at MUC Airport - ERDINGER Weißbräu inspires and amazes. Nature and biodiversity benefit.
Just in time for Euro2024, the private brewery ERDINGER Weißbräu is setting a sustainable example of joie de vivre and closeness to nature with what is probably the world's largest ever brewing logo. Because the stage here is not traditional or social media, but nature itself in all its splendor. And it shows that it is absolutely worth respecting and promoting. In the spaces between the ERDINGER geoglyphs, native field and wild flowers grow. These include rare species worthy of protection that have been deliberately selected here. Everyone is familiar with normal flower strips at the edge of fields. Here, however, entire flowering islands are allowed to grow in the middle of conventional cultivation, giving insects such as wild bees a springboard to spread. The flowering islands create a network of biotopes. ERDINGER Weißbräu's nature sponsorship makes sense and can be experienced at first hand. The total field size is approx. 13 hectares, which corresponds to about 18 soccer pitches lined up in a row. (1 hectare corresponds to 10,000 square meters or approx. 1.4 soccer pitches).

This drone video of the GEOGLYPHE was taken at the end of May 2024 in Achering. (Here in low resolution 960 x 540 pixels).
The field is located directly in the approach path of Munich Airport. The geobranding is already clearly visible from above for the opening game of the European Championship 2024.

A person becomes a small dot in the field
Figures, data, facts about the sown flower branding. Huge. Sensible.
ERDINGER Weißbräu's huge field project was created together with the Munich start-up GEOXIP and partner farmer Michael Pellmeyer from Eggertshof. Using techniques such as RTK, Vector-Seed® and wildflower multilayer seeding, detailed plant patterns are created in different layers down to the centimeter. Depending on the color and flower mixture, each seed is assigned its xy position and thus its future home in our geobranding plan with millimeter precision. In addition, each individual seed is given its own sowing depth. This is because some plants are dark germinators and require an individual incorporation depth. Many field and wild flowers, on the other hand, are light g erminators and must be placed in exactly the right position on top of the soil when sowing. They need light to germinate! Only through the interplay of agricultural experience, perfect planning and high-precision processes can such a miracle of plants emerge after the first rains. And there has been plenty of rain this season!
The total size of the ERDINGER branding is gigantic and is approximately 7.8 kilometers in the field, theoretically 2 ½ hours on foot - if you were to walk all the elements. The ERDINGER letter "E" alone is 34 meters high and about 500 square meters in size. You could easily put a small detached house with a garden on top of it. There is room for around 1.8 million native field and wild flowers in the spaces still available.

Making Of - Geobranding ERDINGER Weißbräu
Floor picture of ERDINGER Weißbräu at Munich Airport
The gigantic ERDINGER Weißbräu floor painting at Munich Airport makes a clear statement about joie de vivre, closeness to nature and biodiversity. Just in time for Euro 2020, the private brewery ERDINGER Weißbräu has created the world's largest brewing logo ever sown in collaboration with the Munich start-up GEOXIP and partner farmer Michael Pellmeyer from Eggertshof. Instead of traditional media, nature itself serves as an impressive stage. The 13-hectare geoglyph, which is the equivalent of around 18 soccer pitches, not only impresses with its sheer size, but also with its ecological benefits. Native field and wild flowers, including rare species worthy of protection, thrive between the carefully designed letters of the huge logo. These were deliberately selected not only to impress visually, but also to make a valuable contribution to promoting biodiversity.
Flower strips versus flower islands
While flower strips at the edge of fields are often already known as a measure for nature conservation, GEOXIP's concept of flowering islands goes one step further. Whole islands full of flowers are created in the middle of conventional cultivation, which serve as a springboard for the spread of insects such as wild bees. These flowering islands connect biotopes with each other, which strengthens ecological diversity and promotes a healthy ecosystem. ERDINGER Weißbräu's nature sponsorship thus becomes a meaningful and tangible project that benefits farmers and nature alike.
A sign of sustainable action
ERDINGER Weißbräu's field advertising in the approach lane of Munich Airport not only offers a visual treat for arriving passengers, but also sends a strong signal for sustainable action. The field logo is neither fertilized nor sprayed. The crops grown in the background, such as corn in this case, are still usable, and the flowering islands provide a rich filling that benefits nature. This type of geobranding offers a win-win situation for farmers and biodiversity and shows how useful it can be to combine agriculture and advertising.
Creation of the ground image, captured in a drone video
The creation of the ground image, captured in a drone video, impressively demonstrates the dimensions of this field art. The video was recorded at the end of May 2024 in Achering and demonstrates the huge scale of the geoglyph, which was already clearly visible from the air at the opening match of the European Championship 2024. The dimensions are overwhelming: the total circumference of the field project is around 7.8 kilometers - a distance that could theoretically be covered on foot in two and a half hours. The letter "E" in the ERDINGER lettering alone is 34 meters high and covers around 500 square meters, large enough for a small detached house with a garden.
Innovative seeding methods
The implementation of this large-scale project required state-of-the-art technology and precise planning. GEOXIP used innovative seeding methods such as RTK, Vector-Seed® and wildflower multilayer seeding to create detailed plant patterns in different layers down to the centimetre. Each seed is given its precise xy position and specific seeding depth depending on the color and flower mix in the geobranding plan. Some plants are dark germinators and require deep incorporation, while light germinators must be placed precisely on the surface of the soil in order to germinate optimally. This interplay of agricultural expertise, perfect planning and high-precision processes creates such a marvel of nature. There was also plenty of rain this season, which further boosted the growth of the plants.
Great ERDINGER summer fairy tale
The "Great ERDINGER Summer Fairytale", as it is called on Instagram, shows the impressive scale and attention to detail that went into this project. The ERDINGER Weißbräu geoglyph at Munich Airport is not just a marketing tool, but a symbol of the potential of advertising in harmony with nature. Here, the advantages of nature as a display are fully exploited to promote a brand and at the same time make a significant ecological contribution. In the open spaces of the logo, there is room for around 1.8 million native field and wild flowers that breathe new color and life into the region.
Example of sustainable outdoor advertising
This impressive combination of technology, nature and creativity shows how modern advertising can enrich not only people's eyes, but also nature. The "ERDINGER Weißbräu" project is a powerful example of sustainable outdoor advertising and shows how geobranding can become a new art form that both increases brand awareness and has a positive impact on the environment.
